The Brandywine Museum of Art’s N. C. Wyeth, A Catalogue Raisonné of Paintings is an extensive compilation of information on N. C. Wyeth, a renowned painter and one of America’s foremost illustrators.  Originally conceived by the artist’s daughter-in-law, Betsy James Wyeth, the project was generously supported by the Wyeth Endowment for American Art.

N. C. Wyeth, A Catalogue Raisonné of Paintings was published in 2008 (Brandywine Museum of Art, Wyeth Foundation for American Art, and Scala, Ltd.). The two-volume catalogue documents 1,922 paintings created between 1902 and 1945. The catalogue raisonné website includes updates on the material in the printed catalogues, as well as entries for paintings completed prior to 1902 and entries for drawings done throughout Wyeth’s career.

Each entry may include an image of the work of art, a physical description (i.e., medium and size), an edited history of ownership, publication and exhibition records, historical notes and other related information. In many instances, related images or photographs are also included.

The NCW number assigned to each painting and drawing is a unique number established for research purposes. Paintings catalogued in the 2008 publication also have number with a letter prefix that denotes their appearance in chronological order within a section, for example, I. for illustration, L. for landscape, M. for mural and C. for commercial work.
